there's a first time for everything

so, after our zumba lesson yesterday, katie talked me into running with her today.  I've decied that I would like to take up running and I'm going to use the couch to 5K plan to get started.  today was a lot harder that I thought it would be and katie is a tough running coach, but that is what I need.

ZUMBA

well, I did something today that I have been meaning to do for a long time, I tried zumba.  I really liked it and it wasn't as intimiding as I thought it would be (granted it was just me and katie in her living room, but still).  I think that I am going to try out some of the zumba classes at the Y as well.

starting south beach

well, today we started phase one of the south beach diet.  I don't know how well I am going to do without sugar and flour for 2 weeks.  I am a huge foodie and this just seems like cruel and unusual punishment.

it just keeps getting better

well I got a call from my doctor today and when he ran a complete blood work up on me yesterday, one of the things he checked was my cholesterol and it turns out it's very high.  so, he wants me to go on the south beach diet.  I've never been on any sort of diet and I really don't want to go on this one, but he's giving me 4 months to get my cholesterol under control or he's going to have to put me on medication.  my sweet and supportive husband is going to go on south beach with me, but we are going to wait until I kick this cold (the whole reason that I went to the doctor to begin with) before we start south beach.

a new high that's actually a low

I went to the doctor today and I have reached a new high, I am offically 40 pounds over my "usual" weight.  now, this didn't happen overnight, I've been steadily gaining weight (and increasing my clothes size) for about 5 1/2 years now.  but today was a wakeup call, I've got to do something about my weight.  I know that it will take some hard work, but hopefully putting my thoughts and struggles down here will help keep me accountable and actually reach my goal which is to lose 20 pounds by the end of this year and be back at my "usual" weight by the end of 2012.
